Awesome Japanese Food

Posted by Rachelle34 on 2/14/2009

I've tried quite a few Japanese steakhouses in the Overland Park area and in other cities. Shogun is the best. The service is outstanding, very friendly. Their teppanyaki chefs are really good and entertaining. But the star here is their food. They have the best seasoned food out of all of the Japanese steakhouses I've eaten at. And a pleasant surprise at this place is their sushi. They make really good sushi!! I always order a sushi roll, and they bring it right out. I've tried their steak, lobster, chicken, shrimp, and their scallops. Everything I've ordered has been excellent. Also they are very affordable compared to most other Japanese Steakhouses. Fun for a goup, a family, or a couple.

fun and tasty

Shogun is a fun place to take the kids. The chefs cook your food in front of you. The meals are served with so much food which includes a soup, salad, shrimp and your choice of steak, chicken, shrimp, lobster, crab or a combination of any. The only drawback is it can be a bit pricey, as most meals are in the $14-19 range. It's a place we go to on special occasions.

Don't recommend this place.

I'm originally from Japan and thought this place was good about two years ago. Last couple of times their food was bad with old fish and service wasn't good, either. Prices seemed to have gone up. I don't plan to visit this place any more.

Bad attitude, bad food, fast sitting. However it's worth to wait at another place. Part-1

My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant for the first time on a Friday night. All other places had a waiting time of over 45 minutes so we decided to give it a try. Surprisingly , ShoGun?s parking lot was almost empty which we figured out later was for good reason. We got seated very quickly and got our drinks almost immediately. This was the only enjoyable part of the evening. When the chef arrived and announced ?see ya tomorrow? in regards to the fact that I like my steak well done kind of stunned me. I know that some people are trying to be funny, but it did not come out right in the beginning. Throughout the process he was still making rather rude comments. I had a feeling that I had personally and seriously offended his entire family. For instance when I was ?consulting? with my girlfriend about nature of the sauces he interrupted me with the question ?why I don?t like it?. Hmm, let me see. Because I did not have any food on my plate and I did not have a chance yet to try it out before I establish whether I like it or not. I can understand that the restaurant is slow and you don?t make as much money, but the best advice I can give to you is to find another job. If I am spending $50 bucks on the dinner of two the least I should expect is not to be interrupted by smart *ss comments from the cook and not to feel guilty about making him work on Friday evening. The last straw was when I asked to pour soya sauce on my food, he replied with the comment -?Of course, it?s free anyway?. That?s pretty much concluded my already not so good mood for the night. Continue?

About the food. First came the ?soup?. Note the quotation marks. Their definition of soup is a small bawl of warm water with bouillon cube and two tiny slices of mushrooms floating in it. I swear, this is it. The salad consisted of ?very tired? lettuce with dressing. The main course plates were covered with oily coat. Seemed like they were rushing through the process, which resulted in undercooked vegetables. However, for some strange reason, everyone?s steak was only put on the stove after spaghetti (?), rice and vegetables were already on the plates. This sort of disappointment had happened to me only once before. Needless to say that I was completely dissatisfied with the food, service and attitude in this establishment. THEY ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY WITHOUT PROVIDING SIMPLE RESULTS IN RETURN. I STRONGLY ADVICE YOU NOT TO GO TO SHOGUN. I have not been in many Japanese type of restaurants but would definitely suggest to try GOJO on Plaza instead. It?s a little tighter in there, but the food is better, you?ll get much more food and it?s cheaper. Did I mention that in Gojo you will also get an icecream for desert. And yeah, don?t forget to make a reservation to GOJO especially on Friday-Saturday night. In conclusion I would like to say that with this type of customer service, food and prices it?s no wonder that Shogun has an empty parking lot.
